What is a Doula?
A doula is a professional support person trained in the needs of the family during pregnancy and childbirth. A doula provides prenatal support and education (discusses your birth preferences, concerns, and questions, assists with your birth plan creation, and offers comfort and coping measures), emotional support (reassurance, encouragement, and help navigating all the emotional aspects of birth), and physical support (labor positions, movement, relaxation techniques, massage, counter pressure, warm/cold compress, breathing techniques, and vocalization exercises). A doula can also help with postpartum care whether that be breastfeeding support, meal prepping, newborn care, or light housework.
The word “doula” originates from the Greek word meaning woman servant and that will be my priority with you; serving you however, wherever, and whenever I am needed most. I want your voice to be heard; I want to defend your rights as a birthing mama, and I want to genuinely consider your wishes. My job is to provide you with a variety of evidence-based information so that you can make your own informed decisions regarding your birth.
Meet your Doula!
Hello everyone, I am Hope Boyer. I am a IDI certified birth & postpartum doula. I received my certification in 2024 and have attended multiple births since then. I have a great passion for pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. As a doula, I strive to empower women with confidence throughout their journey, develop genuine relationships with them, help them achieve their birthing goals, and have a positive birth experience. Abide not only focuses on the physical and emotional aspects surrounding childbirth, but also the spiritual. I believe that birth is a God given blessing, and we should praise Him for our body’s ability to birth our children. Birth can be faith-filled, and that is my overarching goal as a doula.
